Muscle Relaxant Treatment

This is a simple non-surgical, anti wrinkle treatment that can temporarily smooth lines for both men and women. Every day movements and expressions can cause wrinkles, as can sun damage, smoking and other, unavoidable environmental factors. Aesthetic Cosmetic Procedures has a range of non-surgical treatments to counter the effects of lines and wrinkles, which can result in giving you a smoother fresher look.

It is a 10-15 minute treatment that involves simple injections, which within days give noticeable reductions in those frown lines around the eyes and forehead.

Because the treatment is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, it reduces the contractions of the muscles that cause those persistent lines. Within days you should see improvements in the treated areas, which can last between 3-6 months.

Prices start from £160.

The treatment known as Botox® is used to relax the muscles in the upper forehead area and around the eyes, which results in PREVENTING premature wrinkles and to smooth out existing wrinkles. By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout our lifetime, the skin is creased in areas of greatest use. The aging process causes the slow down of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as we get older these areas of over use become damaged and the lines become permanent. Botox® treatment reduces movement of muscles in these areas and the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover causing the lines to soften or even fade away

It’s a safe procedure, as it has no long lasting effects. Therefore the procedure should result in a very positive outcome and help achieve the results you are looking for. Botox® is purified and used in very small quantities. It cannot produce any permanent damage or travel within the body to make you ill. It attaches to the muscles it is placed in and cannot migrate from there. It can only be prescribed by a Doctor Dentist or Nurse Precriber and administered by a professional Doctor Dentist or Nurse. You will undertake medical history and consent forms prior to procedure to see if you are a suitable and safe candidate for the treatment.

  • Pregnant, breastfeeding or trying for a baby.
  • Patients who have any diseases that affect muscle activity, (history of Bells Palsy, Myenasthenia Gravis, Multiple Sclerosis)
  • Bleeding disorders or those taking drugs that affect bleeding time (warfarin, heparin, aspirin, glucosamine).
  • Drugs that may interact with Botox® (aminoglycoside antibiotics, spectromycin, quinine sulphate) It is also probably safest to avoid Botox® usage whilst taking antimalarial quinine based drugs too, although an interaction is only a theoretical problem.
  • Surgery or active infection in the area.
Bruising may occur from the micro fine needle used. This is not very common but more likely around the eyes. Slight redness. Headache, particularly with forehead procedure. Rarely; nausea, distant muscle tremors or a 'flu like illness.

Drooping of the eyelid: This happens in less than 1% of patients and will disappear over a period of 2-10 weeks and is also treatable with eyedrops. Drop in eyebrow postion: If it occurs, it is only temporary but can take 10 weeks to go. Double vision. This is generally specific to when crows’ feet have been treated. The problem will last up to a couple of weeks but is not treatable and will mean you will be unable to drive for that time. An asymmetric elevation of one eyebrow tail is again rare. It maybe due to tracking of the solution so it is vital to follow the post care instructions.

This will be discussed when going through past medical history/Consent forms and your treatment plan. Initially when you have botox for the first time you will have the minimum dosage in the area, to check you have had no reaction to the medicine. You will also have a before procedure photograph. We recommend you return in 2 weeks to assess the results, check you’re before and after photos and have a touch up if necessary.

Your procedure will not take long, roughly 15 minutes. The treated area will be cleansed, and then careful measures dosages will be made which will then be injected with micro fine needles.

Refrain from touching the treated area for 12 hours afterwards. Remain upright for 3 - 4 hours. Repeatedly tense the treated muscle groups during the 3 - 4 hours which involves frowning and smiling, as the Botox® works better in active muscles and speeds up absorption of Botox®. Do not engage in strenuous exercise straight after treatment, No sport until the following day. Limit your alcohol intake on the day of your treatment. No facial massages for 1 week. No Air travel for at least 24 hours and long hall flights or scuba diving for at least a week post procedure. Wait for up to two weeks for the treatment to work.

It is recommended your next treatment should be at least 3-4 months later for first year, less frequent after repeated treatments.
